Lace knitting

Lately, I've really been into lace knitting. I love the mathematical feel of the patterns, the lightness of the designs and the gorgeous flowers, leaves etc. that can be made by simply alternating a small number of stitches!

In a previous post, I showed you the yarn I bought at a market I visited with my mom. It was this lovely merino lace which I purchased at Frechener wolloase. It is totally awesome yarn. I love the colors and the softness, although I do think that next time I'ld rather buy uni colored instead of hand-dye, because the stripiness of it forms a slight distraction from the beauty of lace patterns.

I started my first lace knitting in France this summer. Without internet to look up stitches, it took me quite a while to figure out the pattern. My boyfriend and the colleague who stayed in the same apartment laughed at my mumbling, cursing, and frustation every time I made a mistake, or found out I missed one stitch, or had an abundance of stitches while the pattern was already 'done'.
But, thanks to life lines and persistence, I finally nailed it and this was the result:

I love the pattern, especially the flower edging. Unfortunately, it turned out just a little too small for my taste. It's big enough to use it as a light scarf that I have to tuck in at the ends to stay on, but I just felt a tad unsatisfied. And so...

I decided to use up the bit of purple lace I had and combine it with the blue yarn. I just kept repeating the pattern on and on until I got to the end of the blue yarn and then edged it of with the last bit of purple. It came down perfectly, I ended up with two mini-skeins of the colors left and a wonderful very large shawl!

As you can see, it's way bigger than the one I made before. It didn't even fit on the carpet for blocking! I had to block the ends separate from the rest of the scarf! :)

It's great for wrapping all around me, which comes in quite handy with autumn all around us, though the last couple of days have also given us quite some sun, and winter just around the corner.

You might have noticed my enthusiasm about lace knitting, and it might not be a surprise that I already started a new project involving delicate yarn and circular knitting needles.
Just a quick peak:
