Oops... it's been a while since my last post. I've just been away from home a lot, for cycling trips to Belgium and the south of the Netherlands, a city trip to Barcelona, and, to be honest, working...
Let's start with my trip to Barcelona. It was the annual weekend trip with friends I know from university. Up to now we've always stayed in the Netherlands, with wonderful activities such as a painting workshop and a road trip on an old model moped.
This year one of us decided that we should go abroad for some solar energy and good food! ;)
A friend of a friend has a wonderful apartment in the old city where we would fit in, and so we booked a flight and left for a 4-day trip in early April. The weather was astonishing. Blue skies, sun and 30 degrees (C).
We had a great weekend, strolling around town, treating ourselves to great 'Menu del Dias', cava and Creme de Catalanya.
Off course I had a list with some yarn and fabric stores that I wanted to visit, only two of which I actually got to:
Llanes Travessera which was somewhat far away from our apartment, but is close to some Gaudi houses. It looks great from the outside:
and is packed with yarns from top to bottom:
Although that sounds great, I didn't actually like the store that much. Most of the yarns are acrylics and the people working at the shop weren't particularly friendly (not unfriendly either, but I just didn't feel welcome at the store).
The second store, just around the corner from our apartment was La Barcelana. A somewhat smaller shop, but with great yarns. They have different materials (acrylic, cotton, wool, silk, cotton) in truly amazing color ways. The woman helping was super sweet and helpful.
I found some great yarns (pink-red mohair from Llanes Travessera and the other ones from La Barcelana):
The blue yarn is a cotton-silk blend, the pink is very fine cotton and the purple is wool that I'll be saving for a winter project.
Some more pics from my lovely and sunny trip to Spain:
