Working on spring

Despite the cold weather we've been having the last couple of days, I can smell spring just around the corner. The air just feels and smells different from the winter air. The first flowers are blooming, I've seen daffodil's, crocus and snow drops coming out from under the ground and showing us their beautiful flowers. Oh my, I can't wait until temperatures will rise and the first day you can wear a dress without a tight! ;)

We actually had a writer who introduced 'rokjes dag' (skirts day), being the first day when the weather is good enough for women to wear skirts and dresses, showing off their legs (which in my case are always pale white after a long winter, making me look ridiculous, but hey, it's skirts day!).

I've been anxiously looking outside the window into the garden to check if the bulbs I planted are already coming up. Last week, from one day to the other (or so it seems), I suddenly discovered some green bits coming up:

Ok, so this shows only one bulb coming up, you'll have to trust me there are more all around the garden. I just love the sunlight in this pic. You can just feel how the sun warms up everything it touches!

Because I'm not a very patient person, I've already bought myself some flowers to brighten up the house:

Because of my impatients I couldn't wait to sow seeds for carrots, artichokes, radish, parsnip, lavender, strawberries, etc. So I got my little breeding box out and sowed and watered in the hope to grow some of these lovely plants sooner than I would be able to when growing them outside.

I'm not sure if it'll work, but it gives me something else to look at every day. I only sowed them two days ago, but I can't help but look at the soil a couple of times a day to see if anything is already peeping through it to see if it could maybe grow into a plant. Silly enough, I know that nothing is going to happen in the box anywhere soon, but I just have to go see every time, just in case...

I think I'll even go have a quick look right now, before going off to work!
